Flag Day is a holiday celebrated in the United States to honor and celebrate the American Flag. Flag Day serves as a reminder of the flag's symbolism and the values it represents, such as liberty, freedom, and unity. Flag Day is celebrated annually on June 14th.
Why Do We Celebrate Flag Day?
Nationally, Flag Day is celebrated to honor the adoption of the American Flag and pay respect to its significance as a symbol of the nation's unity, values, and history. At Grand New Flag, celebrating Flag Day has an even deeper meaning.
The idea for Grand New Flag spawned after purchasing an American Flag in the summer of 2011. Selling American Made flags provided a way to honor my late father and Vietnam Army Veteran, Arnold Kauppinen, who passed away in 2008. Fittingly, we officially opened for business on Flag Day in 2012.
For the past 12 years, Grand New Flag has been proud to give back 5% of Net Profits to a nonprofit that serves Veterans. Additionally, Veterans and Active Duty always receive a 15% discount off of the entire store.
How to Celebrate Flag Day
There are many ways to celebrate Flag Day and pay respect to the American Flag. The most simple way to celebrate Flag Day is to proudly display the American Flag at your home or business. Make sure to follow flag etiquette!
Communities often hold parades and flag raising ceremonies to celebrate Flag Day. The city of Appleton, Wisconsin has been holding a Flag Day parade since 1950, making it the oldest in the nation.
For school children, it is common to learn about the history of the flag, make flag related crafts, and participate in parades or other community events. These activities help children understand the significance and symbolism of the American Flag in a fun way.
